(⏪ SWIPE LEFT)🙏🏾 Many thanks to all of you who asked about my well-being since hearing about the coronavirus outbreak in China, my home for 3.5 years. And I pray that you all and your family members are still healthy, employed and well-stocked with supplies. It’s disheartening that’s not the case for everyone.
.
I left China on Jan. 25 for my regular vacation, but then fled to the U.S. when things got worse in China. I returned to China on March 24 and immediately started my 14-day quarantine in my apartment. I’m coronavirus-free. 🙅🏾♀️🦠 (Please view the other slides in this post for answers to some anticipated questions.)
.
Over the past 2 months, I didn’t have the mental bandwidth to run this page, take in the rapidly-changing news, tend to my physical health, worry about my work and living situation, scramble for flights and lodging, grieve Kobe Bryant’s death 💜💛 and answer to my frantic parents, relatives, friends, coworkers and school administrators. I went into survival mode, which is something everyone understands right now.
.
And some of you probably thought, “Well, you could have at least told us you were OK.” I could’ve, but anticipated that people would ask questions. Because things changed so swiftly, my answer to many would’ve been “I don’t know.” 🤷🏾♀️ And as I said before, I didn’t have the bandwidth to tend to this page and my real-life loved ones.
.
I don’t anticipate going away from you for another 2 whole months, but I will be social distancing as well as social media distancing. I just wanted to tell you I’m physically OK and I hope you all are, too. Be blessed, fam. ✌🏾💗
.
.
I saw a headline recently that read: "The ABCs of Money." Before clicking the link, my brain was already trying to create a mnemonic device to help us remember money basics in the ABC format.
.
🤔 What do you think? Do you agree with these basic rules? (See Poll in Stories). What would you add or replace?
.
.
Woot woot! 1 🎓 down, 22 to go! Can’t wait to reach debt freedom!
.
I was blessed to cut down the principal by $1,526.17. I hate sending money to interest, too. But soon compound interest will be working FOR me instead of AGAINST me.
.
If you’re curious to know how I’ve paid off over $32,000, then check out the steps in my ebook, The G.O.O.D. Life.
.
.
Here are some practical things you can do RIGHT NOW or on your lunch break to improve your bottom line or your money mindset. I love doing little things like this to stay motivated on the journey.
.
Let me know if you end up ticking one of these suggestions off the list.
.
1️⃣ Make an extra debt payment right now! (Any amount is fine.) | Every little bit helps, right? If you can, make sure this payment goes toward your principal instead of the interest. See my blog post for step-by-step instructions. @wisewomanwallet
.
2️⃣ Write down a financial or life goal and put it in your wallet. | If you see your goal, you might be prompted to put back that shirt, bottle of wine or the 20 $1 Target items you don’t need.
.
3️⃣ Unsubscribe from an unused or under-used monthly service. | Put that money toward a debt or an item you actually value and use.
.
4️⃣ Rename an account (i.e. Savings x5678 to Disney Vacay 2019 or MasterCard x1234 to Pay Off By October). | Name your goal so you can visualize where your hard-earned money is going. In this case, family fun with Mickey, Ariel and the Black Panther or debt payoff!
.
5️⃣ Read a personal finance article or blog post. | Feed your brain something inspirational or learn something new. It can only help you.
.
.
It’s so dope to review previous annual goals. It’s a progression of your mindset—what you thought you could achieve—and your circumstances at the time.
.
To go from just trying to save $1,000 in 2017 to $10,000 in 2019 is quite a leap.
Let’s be grateful for growth. Do what you can today and just keep going, guys. The little snowflake ❄️ turns into a big snowball. ⛄️
.
🎯 Still need help setting your or ? I have a 13-point checklist that takes you through prompts so you can get crystal-clear on your why and action steps to take.
.
This list works for all types of targets: health goals, marriage goals, etc. It’s not all about money. Download the list and get going! ✍🏾 @wisewomanwallet

Raise your hand, debt crushers!!!🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♂️🙋🏼🙋🏻♀️
.
I started this page 3 years ago. In this 4th year, I’m finally gonna be debt-free!!! FINALLY! $30,000 down (excluding the sold car) and $23,000 to go! Who else is excited to cross the finish line? 🏆
.
If you’re wondering how to finally get over the hump, then check out my ebook. Use the link in my bio to grab The G.O.O.D. Life Starter Set: 16 Must-Have Tools to Get Out Of Debt—Other Than a Budget. You’ll get 5 bonuses, too! 🤗 One bonus may or may not be about budgeting. 😉
.
P.S. My definition of “debt-free” is paying off everything but the mortgage, which I don’t have. But if you’re gonna be mortgage-free this year, throw us a raised hand AND a house. 🙋🏾♀️🏠
.
.
Happy New Year, everyone!!! 🎉 I’m so happy to see so many awesome accomplishments in 2019.
.
Here are some things I manifested AND got surprised with:
1️⃣ Broke the $30,000/50% debt payoff mark by paying off over $15,000 in 2019 alone.
2️⃣ Maintained the $8,500 Sunny Day Fund, a.k.a. emergency fund, I established in Q1.
3️⃣ Finally crossed into positive net worth territory.
4️⃣ Attended my paternal grandma’s surprise birthday party in Philly (just a few months after my maternal grandma passed.)
5️⃣ Launched my first ebook about 16 tools needed for debt domination.
6️⃣ Wrote personal finance stories for @bankrate.
7️⃣ Was unexpectedly featured on @TheShaderoom.
8️⃣ Shared my story on podcasts: @journeytolaunch, @moneymadeeasypodcast and @thephgpodcast.
9️⃣ 2 friends from home visited me in mainland China and Hong Kong. The doctor paid for my flight and accommodation for our Thailand trip. Dope!
🔟 Randomly got an all expenses-paid trip to another Chinese city last week and bonded with other black women.
.
🏔 BONUS: I hiked a freaking mountain, one of the Yangshuo Mountain peaks that’s on the Chinese 20 yuan bill. 💴
.
📚 BONUS: I have half of a book left (“Tap Dancing yo Work”) to finish on the Life-Changing Books List. I posted all the books I have in my home. (Sorry for the crappy iPhone 6 pic.) Other texts were either ebooks or audiobooks. Plan on reading any this year?
.
P.S. ✅ Green checks mean I read the book BEFORE 2019 (8 books). Yellow mean I read it in 2019 (19 books). I read other books excluded from this list, too.
.
.
I wanted to wipe out the penultimate loan this year. 👩🏾🎓 As you can see I have $3,700 to go.
.
I started to get down for not reaching my goal. Then Miss Perspective was like 🗣, “Girl, get a grip!” You’ve paid off over $16,000 on this loan on top of keeping $8,500 in savings and booking 2 international trips this year. This was unthinkable even 2 years ago. Amazing!
.
LESSON: When you’re reviewing 2019, please give yourself grace and celebrate everything great and small! Progress over perfection.
.
On a side note, when I added the total amount I’ve paid toward both student loans ($16,659) and the interest ($2,522.80), I technically paid $19,181.90 this year. Ain’t that something?! A new way to look at . 😉
.
If you’re serious about crushing debt, then check out my ebook. Use the link in my bio to grab The G.O.O.D. Life Starter Set: 16 Must-Have Tools to Get Out Of Debt—Other Than a Budget. You’ll get 5 bonuses, too! 🤗 One bonus might or might not be about budgeting. 😉

SWIPE ⏪ OR READ CAPTION FOR ANSWERS TO FAQS: e.g. Where’s the book list?
.
So far so good in December. Gotta read 2 books in 2 weeks. 😬 Thank goodness for the Christmas break!
.
S.A.V.E.R.S. is a 6-letter acronym representing the Miracle Morning routine: Silence 🧘🏾♀️ | Affirmations 🗣 | Visualization 🖼 | Exercise 🏋🏾♀️ | Reading 📖 | Scribing ✍🏾. Check out my blog to see what tools (journal, apps, affirmations, etc.) I use to start each day. I missed 1 day in November. 🔗 👉🏾 @wisewomanwallet.

I’m reading “The Intelligent Investor” by Warren Buffett’s mentor, Benjamin Graham. The commentary and updates about recent events help review the main points of each chapter.

P.S. In the chart, the green checks ✅ mean I finished the books before 2019, yellow means I read them in 2019 and the purple and white star means I’m currently reading it. The goal is to finish the list by Dec. 31, 2019. Only 2 to go!
.

It’s mid-December! Only 2 more weeks of this month, this year, this decade! Let us know about some wins or lessons learned from the past 15 days in the comments below. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

Sometimes we think adding to our to-do list will move the needle. But perhaps, it’s best to step back, survey the landscape and pare down the list to a few essential tasks that will give you the most bang for your buck.
.
This quote popped out at me in my journal yesterday. I was initially reminded of this idea Thanksgiving night. I refunded my meal ticket to attend a personal finance seminar for entrepreneurs. Money Nerd Status: ACTIVATED! (I got free meals from my job Wednesday 🦃 and Friday 🍛, so I didn’t miss much food-wise.)
.
The speaker mentioned that learning about The Pareto Principle through The 4-Hour Workweek has helped him hone in on his most income-producing tasks. The principle states: 2️⃣0️⃣% of your actions yields 8️⃣0️⃣% of your results. Therefore, do the 20% that matters most.
.
I think I want to to focus on the few things that bring big results and reduce or eliminate the rest in 2020 and beyond.
.
What if one area of your budget—let me guess: food 🥘—keeps throwing you off each month? If you focused on that single area consistently, then maybe you’d get things under control and save more.
.
What if you know 20% of your kids’ toys take up 80% of their playtime? 🧸 There’s an option to buy only toys you know interest them to avoid much more waste or spend money on things your kids need or on something else entirely.
.
What if 20% of your customers generate 80% of your business revenue? 📈 You’d focus more on those folks and how you could please and collaborate more with them.
.
💡 It’s not enough to be active. We must be strategic about what we’re acting on to be more effective.
.
🤔 How could you apply the Pareto Principle-80/20 Rule to your life?
.
Some other great books to read on prioritization are The One Thing and 7 Highly Effective Habits of Highly Effective People. They’re listed in my 2019 books list, which you can see via the link in my bio. 👉🏾 @wisewomanwallet
.
.
(SWIPE FOR FAQs) December will be about reflecting on progress made this year and projecting success in 2020. No different from you, right?
.
I’ve failed at No. 4 in the past, but I gotta do better. I always get inspired or form new ideas at the last minute. 🤦🏾♀️
.
What are your December goals?
.
P.S. The S.A.V.E.R.S morning ritual is a 6-part habit stack. After I drink my breakfast smoothie, I get to it: Silence 🧘🏾♀️ | Affirmations 🗣 | Visualization 🖼 | Exercise 🏋🏾♀️ | Reading 📖 | Scribing ✍🏾.

Next up: The last 2.5 books—investing books. The goal is to finish the list by Dec. 31. I’m gonna be a reading machine! 📖 Send good vibes! 🙌🏾

I don’t anticipate going away from you for another 2 whole months, but I will be social distancing as well as social media distancing. I just wanted to tell you I’m physically OK and I hope you all are, too. Be blessed, fam. ✌🏾💗
