Join us for our next International queer solidarity event Wed 23rd Sept! 🏳️🌈✊🏽🏳️🌈
This series of events brings together queer activists from countries affected by the backlash against the LGBT+ community, including Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, and beyond, to talk about how we can build successful international solidarity to counter these attacks, and to raise awareness of these issues internationally.
Confirmed speakers:
Elena Reimeryte - LGBTQ+ journalist, Lithuania/UK
Laima Vaige - researcher/academic writing about LGBT+ issues internationally, Sweden
With more to be confirmed.
Join us! Let's talk about how to build a strong, international movement for mutual support and solidarity.
This event follows on from a couple of other international LGBTQ+ solidarity events that we've held before, with Polish, Romanian, Russian and UK activists. You can watch the recordings from these events on our YouTube channel.

Our next English Language book club is Oct 7th 7pm.
This October we are reading Heart of the Race: Black women’s lives in Britain, a powerful corrective to a version of Britain’s history - and a narrative of women’s experience - from which Black women have long been excluded.
Here, Beverley Bryan, Stella Dadzie and Suzanne Scafe reclaim and record Black women’s place in that history, documenting their day-to-day struggles, their experiences of education, work and health care, and the personal and political struggles they have waged to preserve a sense of identity and community.
First published in 1985 to address their own experience, which was lacking in texts written by Black men and white women, Heart of the Race is a testimony to the power of radical Black feminist activism and the collective experience of Black women in Britain. It documents their relationship to the British state throughout its long history of slavery, empire and colonialism.
Heart of the Race is available from @newbeaconbooks ❤️
You don’t need to finish the book – or even like it! Just join us on a Zoom call* for some fun, friendly book-chat with like-minded people.
*Please register in advance for this meeting - links can be found on our Fb and website event pages.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Tomorrow 9th Sept 7pm UK time
The September meeting of our Polish book club will be discussing Sylwia Chutnik's short story 'Dopóki Mieszkasz w Naszym Domu' ('As long as you're living in our house') from the series 'Wierzymy w Wolność' (We believe in freedom) published this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Amnesty International in Poland. It's a very timely story, as it talks about the life of a young queer person stuck living with their homophobic parents.
The story (and all stories in the series) can be downloaded for free from the @amnesty_international_polska website.
*Join us on Zoom. If you're planning to join us, please register in advance. Link on the Fb event.
**Feminist Library events tend to be free, but we always need donations. If you can afford it, please support using the link in our bio.

In celebration of Women in Translation month over August, the English Language book club will be teaming up with our Spanish 📙club ❤️ & reading Argentinian author Gabriela Cabezón Cámara’s The Adventures of China Iron.
In a unique reformulation of history and literary tradition, Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, with humour and sophistication, re-writes Martín Fierro – an epic Argentinian poem – from a feminist, LGBT, postcolonial point of view. The book charts the adventures of China Iron, Martín Fierros abandoned wife, in her travels across the pampas and deep into indigineous territories in a wagon with her new-found friend and lover, Liz.
You don’t need to finish the book – or even like it! Just join us on a Zoom call* for some fun, friendly book-chat with like-minded people.
