Together with our partner @park_associati, Snøhetta has been selected for the refurbishment of the existing 1960’s office block Pirelli 35 in the heart of Milan, Italy. The project deftly merges architecture, landscape, and urban design to create a generous and publicly accessible building with a significantly reduced carbon footprint. Through focused interventions, the architects will magnify and optimize the aesthetic and structural qualities of the existing building and draw on the special typologies and elegant material expression of Milan. 📸 Park Associati

On Thursday, October 1st, Snøhetta and the El Paso Children’s Museum leadership unveiled the final designs of the new light-filled, lofty and playful museum in the heart of the city during a groundbreaking ceremony. The historic unveiling is the latest milestone for El Paso’s first purpose-built children’s museum, a special project of the El Paso Community Foundation, the City of El Paso and other community stakeholders. The architecture reveals itself as a cloud, floating above the desert connecting all people in this important place, young and old alike.
The new El Paso Children’s Museum aims to become a civic classroom and energy point for the region’s families, designed to maximize open-ended and imaginative play and exploration. For more information on the design, follow our link in bio.

Last night, we received the 2020 National Design Award for Architecture, bestowed by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum! As we focus our efforts on social and environmental sustainability, we’re honored to be recognized for our body of design work across the globe.
The National Design Awards were launched in 2000 as an official project of the White House Millennium Council, with the goal of increasing awareness and understanding of how design improves everyday life. Organized by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the Awards are bestowed annually in recognition of design innovation and impact. Nominations are made by the general public, and winners are selected by a diverse jury of design leaders and educators.
We’ll be participating in National Design Month virtually, so look out for opportunities to engage with Snøhetta designers!

We are excited to announce that Powerhouse Brattørkaia has been named the winner of the Sustainability category in the Fast Company 2020 Innovation by Design Awards!
As the world’s population and the severity of the climate crisis continue to grow, we are challenged to think how to build responsibly – creating high quality spaces for people while also reducing our environmental footprint.
As the world’s northernmost energy-positive building, Powerhouse Brattørkaia aims to set a new standard for the construction of the buildings of tomorrow: one that produces more energy than it consumes over its lifespan, including construction and demolition. This also includes the embodied energy in the materials used to construct the building.

Following an international architecture competition, Snøhetta together with local partner Tomoon Architects and Engineers have won the bid to design the new city hall in Cheongju, South Korea. Through its open and inclusive design, the Cheongju New City Hall will integrate seamlessly with the urban context and promote ownership for the citizens and visitors of Cheongju.
The design of the Cheongju New City Hall seeks to unite the currently scattered governmental offices into one holistic space, paying tribute to the heritage of the past while creating a modern, open space for the future. The building’s roof and façade are formed by gently folded curves, refencing the shape of traditional Korean roofs. A combination of translucent and opaque panels gives the structure scale and rhythm.
While providing a platform for effective governmental administration, the Cheongju New City Hall will serve as a symbol of integration and accommodate for collaboration and social interaction. The Cheongju New City Hall is due for completion in 2025. 📷 @plo.mp

By superimposing layers of cultural references and atmospheres through its brand identity and interior design, the Moniker brand house (@monikeroslo) highlights and honors those who dare to stand out and showcase their individuality. Inspired by the five distinctive styles characterizing the Moniker brand, the Moniker logo features five typographical variations of the Moniker name. Derived from the same typography grid, or “typography skeleton”, the logo morphs into distinct typographical expressions echoing the chameleon-like interior design. 📸 @hindafahre

Situated adjacent to the Valkyrien square by the busy high-end shopping street in Oslo, Bogstadveien, the 800m2 Moniker store is divided into five zones, each with its unique visual expression inspired by the personality traits of the character they represent, whether Distinctive, Ambitious, Sensitive, Eccentric, Curious or Daring. These zones offer secluded and playful spaces for visitors to enjoy, making a visit to Moniker about more than a simple transaction, but rather an immersive experience counterpointing fast fashion and the standardization and predictability of traditional department stores. @monikeroslo 📸 @hindafahre

In a time where retail is challenged, intensified by the economic shock of the ongoing pandemic, traditional trade and e-commerce is forced to innovate to stay appealing and relevant. In response to this, Snøhetta has designed a playful brand and interior concept for the new Norwegian house of fashion brands, Moniker (@monikeroslo). Through strategic branding, graphic design, web design and interior design, Moniker immerges shoppers into a playful universe, both in their 800m2 brand house in Oslo and online. The Moniker brand experience is inspired by the human need to express individuality and features five distinctive personality traits influenced by iconic muses of the 19th and 20th century, showcasing an attitude of fashion, exploration, and fun. 📸 @hindafahre

When designing the Terra collaboration, we were eager to fuse our experimental approach with Georg Jensen’s enduring legacy for impeccable quality craft. Though Georg Jensen has long been known for its vases and many of other types of vessels, this marks the brand’s first foray into interior planting and also its first time working with terracotta, creating a new chapter of materiality as the brand continues a long-standing tradition of defining and evolving the Scandinavian aesthetic. @georgjensen
Following an extensive selection process, we have been unanimously selected as design architect of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library! This announcement completes a months-long process that culminated in a design competition between Studio Gang, Henning Larsen, and Snøhetta. Our design conceives the Library as a journey through the North Dakota Badlands, where visitors are invited to experience a preserved landscape of diverse habitats, punctuated with small pavilions providing spaces for reflection and activity. We are thrilled to begin our work with the Medora community and the broader project team to create an immersive place to learn about T.R.’s life and legacy amidst the North Dakota Badlands. This week we’re celebrating that we’ve reached half a million followers on Instagram with a new sneak peek of one of the projects we’re the most excited about seeing reaching completion in 2020, namely the Le Monde Group Headquarters in Paris! Like so many of our projects, the building invites us to reflect on how architecture and design can create spaces that can be both public and private, transparent or opaque, analogue or digital. Thank you to all our amazing followers for supporting us in our efforts to create design and architecture that can push physical and intellectual boundaries so that more people can take part, listen, interact and learn. 📸 @_zaccaria

Earlier this year, Snøhetta won the competition for the Planetarium and Observatory of Douaisis in France. This new building aims to create a unique cultural destination on a remarkable site, inspired by the elliptic, fluid, and continuous movement of the stars and the adjacent river Scarpe. By creating a unified building, where the domes of the observatory and the planetarium are closely tied together, the project’s concept is clearly identifiable both when experienced up close and when seen when seen from a distance. 📸 Philippo Bolognese
