The 2021 edition of Rally Sweden moves more up north in Värmland and also into Dalarna to find more snow safe stages. These years new stages presented good snow conditions even during last winters extreme weather situation. Our 100% new stages is SS Lima East, SS Lima West, SS Skrockarberget and SS Kindsjön. SS Kristinefors is also a new stage but 50% of the stage was used in 2010. The 2021 itinerary will have 92% new and new-old stages.
The opening ceremony will be held, as always, at Karlstad SSS Arena with fireworks and hopefully the Prince of Sweden as the opening speaker. SS Torsby Sprint will be used both Friday and Saturday with the famous Swecon Rock to Road Arena. And… at SS Vargåsen we still have the iconic Colins Crest Arena included.
- Feels great to present four totally new stages. It’s always difficult to find alternatives that keeps up with the demands but with a TFZ it really opens up, says Rally Swedens route manager Johan Magnusson.
- 92% is a really good ratio and it will bring some new challenges for the teams. I’m also happy that we still cross the border and runs the rally in both Sweden and Norway, says Rally Swedens clerk of the course Stig-Rune Kjernsli.
- We really wanna experience a great winter rally again after last years nightmare weather conditions, this setup feels safer and hopefully the Covid-19 situation develops in an acceptable way the coming months, says Rally Swedens CEO Glenn Olsson.

Because we love rally.
We love rally, we love our spectators, and we love the winter festival. And we are of course looking forward to launching Rally Sweden 2021. However, as you know, we are in the middle of a global pandemic, and there are bound to be restrictions and challenges to consider moving forward. But we’re thinking positively. And right now we’re busy working to go ahead with the WRC event on the 11th–14th February 2021 – with spectators!
Along with the involved local, county and regional authorities in Värmland and Dalarna, we’re aiming to draw up an action plan that will make sure we can host the event as usual – with special adaptations for the COVID-19 situation.
On our side is the fact that our event takes place outdoors in the biggest arena in the Nordic countries, with a radius of over 100 km from the Service Park. By spreading out and limiting spectator numbers along the stages, setting clear restrictions on spectator places and making sure that people are transported in closed ‘bubbles’, we’re convinced that we can host an event that any public authority would be happy to greenlight.
We will of course be monitoring developments with the pandemic, both at home and abroad, and adapting to the latest restrictions and regulations. We will publish further information on an ongoing basis.
Hoping to see you this winter!
Don’t forget to tune in tonight 21:00 CET to WRC+ for full highlights of Rally Sweden Lockdown 🇸🇪🎥

Oliver Solberg won Rally Sweden Lockdown on Sunday afternoon by defeating Pontus Tidemand in a two-leg final at Torsby.
Eighteen-year-old Solberg, who was co-driven by mum Pernilla, outgunned Tidemand in both final runs over the 2.50km Torsby Sprint speed stage, made famous by the country’s FIA World Rally Championship fixture.
Driving a Volkswagen Polo GTI, Solberg opened a 0.8sec advantage in the first leg of the final on wet gravel roads. He added an extra three-tenths to his lead in the second run to win the made-for-TV special by 1.1sec.
It was the first top-class rally since Covid-19 shut down global sport and the knockout event, which was screened by Swedish broadcaster SVT, was closed to fans and held under tight health restrictions. “It was great fun. The road was pretty rough in the end and that was tricky because we were having to push hard to stay ahead of Pontus,” admitted Solberg. “It was a really tight fight at the end but to win is something special for me and my mum. It’s been a long time out of the car and I want to say a very big thanks to everybody who made this happen. They have done an amazing job.” The invitation-only rally attracted some of the biggest names in Swedish motorsport and Solberg topped the times in qualifying.
As rain began to fall, he beat 2016 world rallycross champion Mattias Ekström in the semi-final before victory over Tidemand’s Skoda Fabia.
Tidemand,a double world champion in WRC support series, knocked out 2018 FIA Junior WRC champion Emil Bergkvist in the semi-final. Bergkvist had earlier set the second fastest time in qualifying, just a tenth slower than Solberg. He beat Ekström to win the B final.
The challenge from double junior world champion P-G Andersson came to an early end when he rolled his Ford Fiesta in qualifying and retired.
Rally Sweden Lockdown director Glenn Olsson said the event provided excitement and close competition for fans watching on television.
