A cloud of dust was the only thing left behind by two ๐๐leopards in Limpopo National Park, Mozambique, as they hastily retreated after being caught red-handed by the male lion whose carcass they were feeding on. ๐ฆ
The carcass had been purposefully put out as bait in an attempt to lure the lion so that it could be darted and collared. This forms part of a collaboration between the National Administration for Conservation Areas, @endangeredwildlifetrust and Peace Parks Foundation to gather scientific data about behaviour and movement patterns. The information gathered will be used to enhance lion management and protection in the park, and will also be useful in mitigating potential human-wildlife conflict.
Following his triumph, the king of the jungle proudly posed for the camera, marking 'his' tree with his powerful claws, before settling in for lunch.
