— [] 🇬🇧 During the next few weeks, the museum will be inviting members of its staff and other collaborators to post images that have caught their eye to the museum's Instagram account. This week, we’ve invited Audrey Secnazi, Studio illustrator and stylist, who worked for Monsieur Saint Laurent from 1990 to 2002. • Whatever their style or their way of wearing Yves Saint Laurent, the women at the fashion house all had strong personalities and an acute sense of their femininity. This legion of women all wanted to seduce Mr. Saint Laurent; every one of them wore high heels and lipstick – a more or less dark red – as seductive weapons or at times as a protective shield. Before any meeting with the great couturier, they would perform the same fascinating ritual: the powder compact would be opened, a little blush was applied to the face...and off to the meeting they went! • When I arrived at the studio, Mme Muñoz had me study Mr. Saint Laurent’s sketches: She said they were like breaths of air, light and purposeful at the same time. I love the underlying spirit of these drawings, these dresses enfolded with chiffon: asymetrical and floating, yet structured. Their colors were like butterfly wings, or stone, or skin. Mme Muñoz would often recall Mme Félisa, who would fashion a corset under the dress, one that would rise to just below the nipples: it allowed her to “sculpt” a seemingly-nude body. Such force under a semblance of fragility: a breath at once light and powerful.

— [] 🇬🇧 During the next few weeks, the museum will be inviting members of its staff and other collaborators to post images that have caught their eye to the museum's Instagram account. It was an elegance that could be physical or intellectual, the manner in which they spoke or the things they referenced. An elegance that came naturally to them: always meticulously thought out, as Loulou would have said, but so thoroughly planned that it seemed natural! Everything they wore seemed in harmony and dignified, both with respect to themselves and in relation to others. Their elegance was straightforward yet self-aware and in tune with the world of haute couture they were representing. Knowingly or not, we were living through the final years of a fashion house and watching history as it was written. — © Guy Marineau ; DR —
