My “Thank You Essential Workers” artwork was based off a piece I hand-painted for MODA Atlanta in 2017. It now has taken on a new life across various screens & billboards in Times Square and greater New York City. Thank you again to all the amazing essential workers working through this crisis.🖤🖤🖤

My artwork is in the heart of @timessquarenyc sending a message of gratitude to the rest of the world: Thank You Essential Workers!🖤🖤🖤
This piece was created as part of a citywide public art campaign initiated by Poster House NYC, Print Magazine, Times Square Arts, and For Freedoms that went live across New York last week.
Artists and designers from around the globe were asked to create messages of love, gratitude, and solidarity with frontline workers, and I was honoured to be a part of the group.
In addition to electronic billboards in Times Square, these artworks will display across 1,800 digital billboards and screens in all five boroughs of NYC and one on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel. But don’t go and find them! Stay home and view the gallery at Posterhouse Museum online. Sending love & positive vibes to all! 🖤🖤🖤
Thank you to @posterhousenyc, @printmag and @debbiemillman for getting me involved in this initiative and a shout out to the amazing artists, media partners people that made this happen: @mairakalman, @zzdesign, @jessicahische, , @edelrodriguez,@olabaldych, @seymourchwast, @pablodelcan, @matt.dorfman, @joehollier, @mirkoiliccorp, @brightworkpress, @richardmcguirehere, @championsdesign , @debbiemillman, @mrseaves101, @emilyoberman, @psahre, @klaas_verplancke_official, @strickandwilliams,@thedailyheller, @tsqarts, @forfreedoms, @linknycofficial. 🖤🖤🖤
Come Hell or High Water, created with charcoal from Australia’s recent bushfires, is on show in the opening tonight at @carriageworks. Although RSVPs are now closed, all artworks are up for silent auction online from March 11-April 17 at riseexhibition.com. All proceeds will go to organisations helping those affected by the bushfires. Big thanks to @mattyontheside @missannahunt & @likemindedstudio for making this happen.
I was first asked to participate in the RISE exhibition at the height of the bushfires in early January. By the time I began working on my piece a month later, Sydney was experiencing torrential rain and flash flooding, so, the phrase ‘Come Hell or High Water’, to me, represented these two extremities of the climate crisis and what is to come. At the same time, this phrase also referred to the resolve and determination displayed by the efforts of volunteers, firefighters and emergency services to do everything in their power to support and help those in need.
Usually I work with acrylic paint or ink, so charcoal was new to me. It’s nice working with a new medium because there’s an opportunity to experiment without any preconceived ideas of how it will turn out. The charcoal used in my piece was collected from a bushfire affected area in the Southern Highlands. I wanted to use it in both wet and dry forms to reflect the concept. I used a mortar and pestle to create a fine charcoal dust which was then mixed with a binding medium to create a charcoal paint. I applied this with brushes for areas of black in my artwork and used dry charcoal and graphite for shades of grey.
In the studio today finishing off my drawing for the @riseexhibition. Created using charcoal from Australia’s recent bushfires. Show opens next week at @carriageworks.
