In 1860, a group of young patriots launched a movement to wake up the United States. “The Wide Awakes” were mechanics, laborers, and clerks who opened their eyes, stood up, and marched and sang in the streets with flags and capes and banners by the tens of thousands. They were creative with their use of art, song, and public rallies, and pushed for the abolition of slavery at a critical moment in history. In 2020, the Wide Awakes are a network of thousands of artists, cultural workers, and activists driven by the most urgent social and political issues of our time. The Wide Awakes believe art has the power to wake people up. Art is a tool to educate, motivate, and activate our citizenry, inspire us, open our hearts and minds, and transform our lives. @hankwillisthomas @joseparla and many other artist friends have been essential to launching the movement For the eight march happening in New York City yesterday, I chose to reprint the eyes of Eric Garner to open the march... a way to keep his eyes open, and make sure everyone is awake... 📸 @marc @wideawakes2020

An agricultural prayer in collaboration with Alice Rohrwacher travelled through Venice ! Next step this Saturday in San Gimignano with @galleriacontinua « For the small peasants, who have kept us alive for thousands of years. For all those who through the centuries have protected springs and forests to leave our children a planet as fertile as they found it. Let us pray. For all those peasants without a name who have preserved seeds and guarded their know-how and given it – not sold it – to the future generations. For all those peasants who have protected and delivered us the greatest wealth there is: biodiversity. Let us pray. For the unknown person who planted the hedges to live together with animals and insects, who planted trees to give shade and relief to flocks and shepherds. For all those who didn’t poison what feeds us. Let us pray. For all those peasants who suffered misery and poverty but offered the world beauties and marvels and landscapes. For this moving testimony whereby human beings can live in harmony with nature, not geared toward profit and without destroying all ressources. For all those peasants who have been exploited and humiliated by the landlords of all the times. Let us pray. »

NEW RELEASE! In October last year, I was granted access to a maximum security prison in Tehachapi, California, and we worked together with current and former incarcerated men, as well as prison staff, to paste that gigantic image representing them, on the prison yard. We also recorded their stories, and you can listen to them on the JR:murals app. Today we are releasing a limited edition lithograph of that image on @socialanimals . NEW LITHOGRAPH RELEASE!! In February 2020, I returned to California Correctional Institution: Tehachapi to work with volunteers from the prison's incarcerated population. We pasted 56 strips of paper representing the mountain range located just behind the courtyard's inner wall, making the wall disappear... The installation still remains today.
