PARTNER CORE WORKOUT
All you will need for this is a resistance band and a buddy!â
.
@finolaphysio and I were using quite a sturdy and oh my word did I feel this in my and the next day! Check out Finâs page for the modified version đĽł
.
Try two or three rounds of the following and let us know how you get on.
â¨LEG LOWERS
x 5-10
The surprisingly hard part of this is when youâre the one holding the band and trying to keep your arms stable!
Top tips: exhale to lower the legs, keep the navel hugging to spine, lift the pelvic floor and draw the ribs in. Avoid doming in the abdominals or overarching in the lower back. If your core is struggling, try lowering the resistance.
.
â¨HOVERING SHOULDER TAPS
5 each arm and then swap sides of the band!
Make sure youâre far enough away from each other to feel the resistance. Core engaged as above and as you move try and minimise the pelvis tipping and mid / lower body moving!
.
â¨HOOVERING FIRE HYDRANT
x 5-10 each side
Oooofff these burn! Try with the knees down first and then try hovering the knees for an extra challenge. As you lift the knee to the side, keep the pelvis stable and core engaged.
When my daughter was born she nearly died. She fought through sepsis, jaundice, breathing issues and at one point we were told she may have issues with her heart and brain.
She fought and she won. The day we took her home was incredible.
.
Nearly six months after taking her home I remember sitting by her cot at 2am sobs racking my body. It was one of my lowest points and I had never felt more alone. I felt broken into little pieces that I no longer recognised.
.
I had spent months kidding myself that I was ok and that I could manage. The overriding thought going through my brain being, âwe were the lucky onesâ. We were able to leave the hospital with our baby and she was ok. And that fact made me bury all the feelings of pain and struggle.
.
It took me a long time to finally admit to the people I love the most that I was not ok. To admit that I needed some extra help. And as hard as it was, it was the best thing I ever did. The relief that itâs ok not to be ok. That I wasnât alone.
.
The reason why I am sharing this is to ensure that if this resonates with you even the tiniest bit, you know that you arenât alone. You are NOT alone. Please speak out to someone you trust, a friend or a trusted health professional.
.
âWe donât have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.â @brenebrown
.
Mental health issues donât need to look a certain way.
Donât feel guilty for asking for help. You are not a failure. You are not a bad mother, friend, father, son, daughter.... You donât even have to have a reason for not feeling ok.
We are NOT meant to do it all ourselves and once I realised that, a huge weight was lifted.
.
Where there is help, there is hope. So eloquently put by my friend @annamathur.
â¨PINCHA DRILLSâ¨
Come flow with me online this Sunday at 9am London time for a Fire + Power live class with a Pincha (Forearm stand) theme! This class is for everyone - you honestly donât have to have in your practice to take this class. We will be flowing around the mat style incorporating postures and drills to build the foundations for pincha and to help you get some air time.
.
All you need is a block (or cushion will work too) and (if you want!) a wall! Itâs going to be a fun one and I canât wait to see you all there :)
PARTNER WORKOUT!
You know when you picture how something will be in your head?âŚ. And then itâs sooooo much harder?!!! This workout is that but we had a LOT of laughs in the process (last slide for some bloopers!).
.
These videos show some great whole body strengthening drills, and on @finolaphysio's page sheâs showing a modified version!
.
Weâd LOVE to see your attempts, especially if you manage to accomplish the squats exercise (top tip, choose someone a similar height to you!!)! Tag a friend you want to try these with and let us know how you get on!
.
The moves are below. Use a weight, or a bottle or even a small bag with a few objects in:
đžOBLIQUE CHAMPAGNE BOAT TWISTS
Sit back to back, sit bones reasonably far apart (so you have room to lean back). Engage the core and sit up as tall as you can. Exhale, sitting back on the sit bones and either extending both legs to come into , or extend just one leg at a time as Fin is showing. Inhale, then exhale to turn to your right to pass the object to your partner. Inhale, then exhale to turn to the left to retrieve the object back. Continue for 10 reps on one side and then 10 to the other. This is surprisingly tough on the obliques!!
.
đžSEATED ROW
Both of you will get an upper body workout with this one! One of you is the anchor and youâll work your and by holding an upright static position to keep the resistance band taut. This person, leans back into boat pose and rests their feet on their partnerâs knees for stability. The other person performs a pull back to strengthen the upper back by squeezing the shoulder blades together and pulling the elbows back on the exhale, then return the arms forward on the inhale. Follow this with a mini core burner by pulling navel to spine a bit more and leaning your torso back towards the floor on the exhale, and then inhale to come back. Repeat x 10.
.
đžOBLIQUE TWIST SQUAT
So. Hard!
If you can, imagine your partnerâs back is the wall and come down into a âwall squatâ. Keep the core engaged and the knees aligned with the middle toe. You can either stay in a wall squat for 1 minute, or try the oblique twist as above.

BOOTY BOOTY BOOTYYYY đ
.
Todayâs post is all about the đ with @finolaphysio and I mixing it up a bit with some different drills đđť. Check out Finolaâs page for the benefits of each exercise and some specific cues for your glutes. Finâs showing the modified versions and Iâm showing the level up.
.
Having strong is so important for many reasons but itâs also super helpful for your practice. Sometimes the glutes can be a bit lazy for a lot of us, and without them switching on our stability during our practice can be impacted. Specific drills to switch on and strengthen the glutes alongside your normal practice helps to improve your ability and reduce the risk of injury. Yay!!!
.
đYOGI SQUAT TEASER - This is a deep squat and so itâs very important to keep the knee aligned with the middle of the foot and your core engaged. Test your glute and core strength by extending your arms in front of you as you exhale, then inhale to bring them back in.
.
đECCENTRIC BRIDGE x 10 EACH LEG - this is one Fin gives to her patients and itâs a great variation of the bridge. Keep the hip bones level and your pelvis in a neutral alignment.
.
đBALLET BURNER x 10 EACH LEG- This works your hip mobility as well as being a great general all round hip muscle workout! Keep the core engaged, the hips facing square forwards and ground through all corners of the foot.
.
Did someone say LAUNCH PARTY?!? AND a @varley GIVEAWAY?? AND free 1 month access?!

See you on the mat, I can not WAIT!!!
Yoga IS for EVERY body
I remember being 20 and shying away from yoga as I had no flexibility. I saw yogis making some beautiful shapes but to me they seemed completely unattainable... I didnât realise that in reality, any good yoga class can be modified to suit Your body.
.
So when I joined @instagram I wanted to share the things that helped me in the hope that it would help some of you. Yoga is truly for EVERY body and a key message I want to share is that every flow can be accessible to ALL with the right modifications.
.
As a physio, @finolaphysio regularly modifies patients yoga practice or exercise so that people can continue to gain the numerous benefits associated with exercise and yoga, without worsening or aggravating their symptoms. This video shows a way of modifying your practice. Finola has the details for her version on her page!
.
This flow is great for strengthening the whole body, in particular our oblique abdominals, glutes and leg muscles. Making yoga accessible to everyone is important to us and is part of the reason we made sure our @strengththroughyoga online guides have for the drills & poses!
.
should be challenging and tiring but not painful. If you have pain or unusual symptoms please stop and speak with an appropriate health professional, or avoid any exercise you have been advised to.
.
FLOW (more details in the comments):
â¨3 legged dog, option for all fours
â¨fallen triangle, option to hold knee to tricep
â¨wild thing, option to keep the bottom knee down
â¨Skandasana
â¨Half moon, option to use a block or keep the hands on the hips,
â¨Dancer, option to keep the hand on the thigh,
â¨Seated twist, use the hands to lower if needed.

And lastly, itâs a dream come true to create this app. Iâve created yoga classes which are suitable for people of all ages and abilities, from beginners to more advanced practitioners. I have such a passion for helping others to find the magic of yoga and the strength and calm it can bring into your life. When you think about being the healthiest version of yourself, itâs vital to focus on both the mind and body â so alongside classes there are meditations and other ways to help you bring your yoga practice off the mat.
