New season. New elevator pitches. Season 6 of Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch premieres this Wednesday!

In March, @elizablank’s online sales were spiking. Her company, @thesill, sells houseplants, and as folks found themselves stuck at home, they were eager to have some greenery sent straight to their doors. At the same time, the brand’s five brick-and-mortar stores temporarily closed. Blank was worried about the lost revenue, but saw a silver lining. “We had solicited feedback from our retail team in the beginning of January, and a lot of them didn’t feel like they had enough time to train before being put in from of the customer, and they didn’t have clarity around career trajectory and growth paths,” she says. So for the next 12 weeks, she redesigned the brand’s training and education programs. Actress and entrepreneur @tarajiphenson is familiar with the stigma around mental health. In 2018, she started a nonprofit named after her father, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, to fight that stigma, and in 2019, she opened up about her own struggles with depression and anxiety while appearing before a Congressional Black Caucus task force on Black youth suicide and mental health. “My ‘why’ was greater than the fear,” Henson says of sharing such personal information. “I know people needed to hear me say it.” This year, as the pandemic took hold and the police killing of George Floyd caused nationwide unrest, Henson shifted her foundation’s focus from raising awareness about mental healthcare to actually facilitating it, covering the cost of therapy sessions for applicants in need and working to make care more accessible to Black communities. “Wherever I go, I want to make people feel better and do better,” she says. “If I’m not having an impact, then what am I doing?” Read more from Henson and other founders featured in our 100 Powerful Women issue at the link in bio.
