“One Day in D.C.” 10.10.2020 I had business in MD & decided to stop in D.C. on the way home. In 6 hours, I walked 12.6 miles & shot 835 frames using a Leica M10-P w/Summilux f/1.4 50mm & Super-Elmar f/3.8 18mm lenses. Here’s a few of those shots- I’m gonna do a photo zine of this one crazy day. ‘Murica, y’all... 1- SUPER-angry pro-Trump anti-Chinese Chinese man outside White House screaming in Mandarin about Trump 2- SUPER-flamboyant foreign gay dude from I don’t know where viciously taunting angry anti-Chinese Chinese man with megaphone. 3- Hilarity ensues (then angry pro-Trump anti-Chinese Chinese man turns on me for shooting photos while laughing uncontrollably- I duck to avoid getting smashed with metal pole.) 4- SUPER-weird “BLACKNATIVETRUMP” shows up. Black Lives Matter folks yell at him to “take that shit off your head!” “BLACKNATIVETRUMP” ignores them & babbles nonsense to nearby tree. 5- MAGA man, whom I have seen RUNNING AT FULL SPEED all over D.C. shows up, starts screaming, & busts a move for me. 6- DC cop notices Leica, lusts over my camera, I shoot his portrait- other cops bust his chops for drooling over Leica (hey, I get it bro) 7- “Jews for Jesus” rehearse for their procession/dance performance for Jesus, ask me if I want them to hold a pose, ironically pose looks like flying Hitler salute. 8- Nutty religious anti-masker tells me I am a “slave of Pharaoh” for wearing mask (which is the MARK OF THE BEAST), tries to hand me pamphlet, I refuse, then smiles for a portrait while calling me Pharaoh’s slave again. 9. Latino pro-Trumper from BLEXIT group calls this couple “punks” after they say they don’t believe in Jesus & won’t vote for Trump, then calls me a punk & screams & cusses me out over Trump/Jesus/abortion/COVID, even though I DIDN’T SAY A SINGLE WORD. 10. EPICALLY wasted man from BLEXIT rally lost deep in alcoholic/patriotic euphoria leans against bike rack, triumphantly holding White Claw™️ aloft while CRANKING Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” (you know, the “Proud to be an American” song) over and over through mega-phone. I hope he made it home ok... I have so much more.

Along with my friends @eyeneyevisions & @radio_tokyo, I co-curated this upcoming exhibit in Norfolk, VA. 15 stylistically diverse photographers of various races, colors, creeds & nationalities who shot on the streets of our city during this last exceedingly tumultuous summer. It’s been honor to get to know & work with all of these photographers, most of whom have never exhibited before, & I am so excited to see their work hanging alongside mine on a gallery wall. “Sweet Virginia Girl” 10.2.2020, Charlottesville, VA. Yesterday some photographer friends & I made the trip to Charlottesville, VA to see the “Bearing Witness” photography exhibit opening at @secondstreetgallery. Even though it’s just an hour or so away, I have not been to Charlottesville in several years, but it’s always been in my mind that when I next went, I needed to go to the street corner pictured in the first photo to reflect & pay my respects. This is the spot where a neo-Nazi white supremacist animal from Ohio drove his car into a crowd, killing Virginia native Heather Heyer & injuring 19 other people at the end of the Aug 12 2017 “Unite the Right” rally. One of my closest friends was standing right there that day, & he saw the car zipping past- he’s very lucky to be alive, & was severely traumatized by the event- most of you have probably seen the footage of that awful moment. When we arrived in Charlottesville, I had to look around for parking, figuring we would go see the exhibit first & then go see the spot later. I parked my car at the intersection of 4th & Water streets, & after getting out soon realized I had parked EXACTLY where the incident had occurred- totally random, & pretty unsettling, but I’m glad it happened that way. As evidenced by all the signs, chalk messages on the brick wall, & flowers left nearby, the people of Charlottesville have not forgotten what happened there, & they have not forgotten Heather Heyer. I have been to many places where historical atrocities have occurred (such as Auschwitz & Birkenau)- for me, it is important to see these places, to understand & learn from them. The echoes of humanity’s darkest impulses linger there, & I must listen carefully for them so that I can recognize them when they arise anew & stand against them. Rest In Peace, Heather Heyer- by all accounts, you were a sweet Virginia girl. You were one of us, & wherever you are, know that you are not forgotten. #🔴📷 sthetic

Today I went @fountainbookstore to sign copies of my book, Dark Days, for people who ordered it. I’m posting about this (as I always do) to let people know that they can avoid the hideously over-priced EBay Vampires ($60 to $85 to even almost $300) & get a signed, even personalized copy of my book (hardback or softcover) at a REGULAR PRICE. And no, you can’t send it to me- I am untrustworthy & lazy & always busy doing a zillion things already. I will most likely lose your book or sell it to fund a surf trip. As everyone knows, no bands are touring right now- my band @lambofgod has scheduled two streaming shows, & luckily we have been able to pay some of our road crew to work these two gigs. However, the fact is that smaller bands who don’t have the draw that we do can’t afford to do these kind of things- there are many, many unemployed road crew members out there struggling to get by. There is no tour or show without the road crew- they work twice as hard as any band member for none of the glory (this is why Motörhead wrote “The Road Crew” in honor of these men & women who keep the show happening.) That is why @forthenomads was started during this crazy time, to help crew peeps get through this bullshit until we can all get back on the road again. To try & help these hardworking people, I have donated a print for auction of @garyholt onstage playing the final ever U.K. @slayerbandofficial show, last year at @downloadfest 2019 (swipe left to see the photo.)
