Here's a fully swipable version of my latest fanart of @lm_____ltm song MV "Criminal".
.
.
My fanart of @lm_____ltm 's single "Criminal".
~SWIPE for the close up.
~Although a new taemin listener, i was introduced to his iconic song "Move" by twice's cover of it, and quickly became a fan. This song just clicked instantly to me, which is a bit rare cuz it takes a few listens usually, but the mood of the song, lyrics and the storytelling through the dance is super captivating, i'll be sure to dive deeper into his rich kpop history all in good time.
~It was also new and refreshing to have finally tackled a male kpop idol, and im pretty happy with it, not that i didn't know how to draw guys, just never wanted to force myself into it for the sake of it, so now i had a good reason. Definitely because of the dark intense lighting in the MV found this scene to have alot more contrast and harsh shadows, and as a result it came out alot more painterly than most of my stuff, but im happy with the look. Hope ya'll like it too. Process and swipable version coming soon!

LEVEL 2 EXERCISES: Animation no.14, "Getting up from a chair".
the further i go clearly the more fun and challenging these are getting, this one required me doing a few passes of just generic figure getting up from the chair to get an understanding of weight shift during the motion properly, and in the end i went with this kid using his phone for a tiny acting bit and then realistically getting up, pretty pleased with this.
few weeks back i decided upon disciplining myself when it comes to personal animation/art i started doing animation exercises from the website animator island : https://www.animatorisland.com/51-great-animation-exercises-to-master/?fbclid=IwAR0maMmXfjTRMX3Ka1V_0yaPZ4O8dNvXS6htTxpA0jJbADApnP_UbdY_lD8&v=3a52f3c22ed6, the exercises go from easy to difficult. So now i'll be doing new exercises from the website every few days and see where it takes me. This is all in hopes that soon i start an animation project for myself, a short one that is.

LEVEL 2 EXERCISES: Animation no.13, "Character jumping over a gap".
had to create a little hiker guy for this one, looking at this prompt this is what came naturally to mind, a hiker jumping over a gap in the mountain terrain somewhere, so had to look up some references off of shutterstock for motion and his design. Still did more than what was required but at this point i can't be asked. Onwards i move.

My process pictures of Seulrene's (both girls) drawing from my fanart of @redvelvet.smtown 's sub-unit song "Monster". Swipe for the pictures.
~Followed the same process as usual, took the drawing through the following stages :
1. Rough sketch
2. Lineart
3. Color
4. Lighting
5. details
~the initial sketch usually takes few attempts and a bit of tweaking/adjustments to look just right, lineart is fairly straightforward, with colors i always try to go for ambient colors, if the environment is already a dark indoors scene, no point in making the characters flat colors super bright, with lighting i focus on all sources of light, including main, ambient bounce lights and basic form shadows. And finally in the end comes all specular highlights, makeup values, reflections, light rays and dust particles.
~The clothing detail. Lots and lots of it, was very challenging but also fun to figure out, its definitely what brings this whole scene out to the viewer. Also can we appreciate the cinematography and shot composing here they did in the MV? the girl's hair makes a heart, i bet that was planned, so artsy and good X"O. So yes had to try some new stuff out to figure out the sparkly beads on her dress, broke it into layers and arranged them accordingly to how this would work in reality, had to paint her arm, then a translucent low opacity color, then beads on top, nothing revolutionary, just new for me. Fun thing about noisy details like this is you only have to keep track of the patterns from the reference to a certain extent, and its mostly brush strokes to create illusion of scattered noise, it goes for anything in art generally, but especially with small scattered noisy detail.

~So with this one it was a first where the subject is in contact with an actual background element, so here i had to draw in the bed, pillows, and all the drapery, nothing too different when it came to their rendering, actually the same process, but drawing those elements did bring a nice cohesive feel to the scene. Also in the original scene for this the lighting was so artistically done, it was tricky to go away from it and add imaginary lighting, so stuck pretty much with it, with very little differences here and there, was conflicted in the start but glad i went with what was already provided, they killed it with the lighting in the whole MV. Also please notice visible change in head size which i realized while doing lineart so changed there lol.

~Don't think there was anything new with this one really, the gun was a bit tricky to get right, so it feels somewhat solid and not soft or janky in any way. Oh and yes i did try and indicate a few more realistically loose strands of hair sticking out of her head, not the best result, but its a start.

FOCUS POST of both Irene and Seulgi ( Seulrene ) from my fanart of @redvelvet.smtown sub-unit's song "Monster". *Swipe for a closeup swipable version*
~Glad this is the last one i tackled. Its funny because the detail in this one makes it look like it took the longest but honestly working on two drawings before this really got me in the flow of things so this one actually took the shortest time to complete. Ofcourse it was challenging to properly treat the beads and details in Irene's dress. Had to break it down layer wise exactly how in reality cloth would fall into place over the body, so alot of fancy layering of arm, then a translucent layer of cloth, then beads, it was challenging but really fun and now i know how to tackle intricacies like this. The Background is also a swirling pattern of reflective surfaces so even this strokes give the impression of that. Probably my favorite from all three scenes, even though i love all of em equally :')). Hope y'all like it. Probably won't be tackling three scenes together anytime soon, or heck who knows just might it was time consuming though xD. Process coming soon!

FOCUS POST of @renebaebae from my fanart of @redvelvet.smtown sub-unit's song "Monster". *Swipe for a closeup swipable version*
~This is the second one i finished. And actually the first time probably where the subject was pretty much in contact with the background and surroundings, so i had to draw and render the BG on the same level of detail as the character unlike other times when its either less detailed or blurred. Was a little tricky to keep the lighting away from realistic in this one and still stylized and imaginative since the lights in the original scene were so deliberate and strong, so this ones a mix of pretty much following the actual scene lighting and very little imaginative lighting, tried to make up for it with the drawing itself though haha. The original scene was a piece of art though much like the entire song so just had to draw this scene. Hope y'all like it! Process coming soon!

FOCUS POST of @hi_sseulgi from my fanart of @redvelvet.smtown sub-unit's song "Monster". *Swipe for a closeup swipable version*
~The first i took to completion from the 3. Had to do one drawing of them from this scene and outfit and also was looking for one nice face closeup scene and found this as the ideal one. The BG for this one came out slightly plainer than the other ones, perhaps i should have went a bit away from the actual MV itself and added elements on my own but at the same time it would've distracted from the main subject so it's alright. I added a good amount of strong backlight in this one where there wasn't exactly one and played around with dust particles. Hope y'all like it! Process coming soon!

Presenting my fanart of @redvelvet.smtown Irene&seulgi's sub-unit title track "MONSTER" MV.
*Please swipe for the other drawings*
~I know im over 2 months too late, been wanting to do this ever since the album came out, was doing alot of other stuff though and even tackling 3 scenes together was a big first time challenge took over 2 weeks to make this. Though i like taking my time and very happy with the result, most probably won't be tackling multiple scenes anytime soon again haha.
~SM made a great choice by creating a sub with them, this song's so good, one of their strongest velvet concepts yet, love the obvious creepy and horror concept, and don't get me started on choreo even, it was too nice. Captions were mainly inspired from the amazing @hanavbara , her work is super inspiring do check her out folks!
