This , , & , we celebrate our Columbia Nurses and all they do to provide compassionate and holistic care. 🙌💙
Midwifery student Molly Sokolosky (@ColumbiaNursing'20) says, “I love being a nurse midwifery student! The past few semesters have been challenging as we adjust to life during a pandemic. However, both my professors and peers have made great efforts to create a rich learning environment, so we are prepared to move into clinical practice.
I think that now, more than ever, we see the importance of caring for the whole person. That is my favorite aspect of the midwifery care model — we are prepared to care for a woman's physical, emotional, and mental health.”
Congratulations to MacArthur "Genius Grant” winner Catherine Coleman Flowers, whose work with Columbia's Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) and @ColumbiaLawSchool's Human Rights Institute (HRI) brings attention to failing water and waste sanitation infrastructure in rural areas and its role in perpetuating health and socioeconomic disparities in communities across the U.S.

Congratulations to poet Louise Glück, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature! Louise Glück, who studied at @ColumbiaGS and later studied & taught at @ColumbiaSchoolOfTheArts, also won the 1993 in Poetry for "The Wild Iris." The @PulitzerPrizes jury described "The Wild Iris" as "a book of intense inward rapture where lyric values, pure lyric values of voice and spiritual meditation, predominate, and its appearance secures for Glück a high place indeed in contemporary American poetry." 👉 Link in bio for story & jury report.

Danessa Bradley (@ColumbiaNursing'20) encourages Hispanic and Latinx individuals who are considering pursuing a career in nursing to take the leap this . 🙌
“The Hispanic/Latinx community faces many inequalities and underrepresentation in health care. These inequalities have become even more evident due to COVID-19. Being a Latinx nurse means I can help to advocate for Latinx patients as well as work to bridge the gaps in health care that our community is faced with.
We need more Hispanics/Latinxs in the field of nursing. I would encourage future generations of Hispanic/Latinx nurses to continue to pursue their degrees even when experiencing ‘imposter syndrome.’ It’s easy to feel discouraged and like you don’t belong. However, you are right where you belong!”
🗳 Voter registrations are coming due in IL, NV, NM, MO, ID, DE, NC, OK, to name a few. Make sure you give yourself a buffer — the day you put a registration or ballot in the mail may NOT be the day it is post-marked. And check your postage — one stamp may not be enough!
👉 Students: if you have specific voting questions, @ColumbiaVotes is here to help you find the answers tonight at their 8pm office hours. zoom link in bio.
