Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett praised the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for opening doors, even though the two women are ideological opposites. The Supreme Court nominee said it would be "the honor of a lifetime" to serve on the highest court. "I come before this Committee with humility about the responsibility I have been asked to undertake, and with appreciation for those who came before me," Barrett told lawmakers. Sen. Kamala Harris said the Supreme Court confirmation hearing of Judge Amy Coney Barrett should have been postponed because of coronavirus concerns, accusing the committee of not taking enough precautions to keep people safe. She went on to say that Senate GOP members are rushing the nomination as an effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act through the Supreme Court.

Jaines Andrades started working at Baystate Medical in Springfield, Massachusetts, as a janitor. But she worked her way through nursing school, and now ten years later she has returned as a nurse practitioner. In a Facebook post, Andrades wrote about her journey from hospital custodian to nurse practitioner and posted a picture of all three of her IDs. "I'm so appreciative and like in awe that my story can inspire people," Andrades told WBZ-TV. "I'm so glad. If I can inspire anyone, that in itself made the journey worth it." Researchers in Canada studied the lives of 50 recently homeless people after giving them a lump sum of around $5,700 -- comparing their findings with a group of homeless people who did not receive any cash. The preliminary results show that those who received cash were more able to quickly find stable housing, food and clothing than the other control group. They also saw a 39% decrease in spending on goods like alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. The 115 participants were screened for a low risk of mental health challenges and substance abuse, and had been homeless for an average of six months.

Mattel released a Susan B. Anthony Barbie doll in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment as well as Anthony's 200th birthday. "You can almost hear her speak, 'Yes, your honor, I have many things to say.' She is still telling us to get 'a citizen's right to vote,'" Susan B. Anthony biographer Ann Gordon said.

Mars will be shining its bright red light throughout the month of October -- visible in the east each evening and in the west before dawn. The red planet is nearly 40 million miles away from Earth and scientists say it won’t be this close again until 2035. Next week, Earth will swing between Mars and the sun — an event called Mars' opposition, according to NASA.

This is how airlines disinfect their planes ✈️ They use electrostatic spray on all high-touch surfaces, including overhead bins, seats, tray tables, armrests and door handles. Delta told CNN it's done on every plane after every flight. It's followed up with wipe-down of surfaces. Airlines say passenger safety has been a priority as the industry has been reeling from reduced air travel and job losses.

The Commission on Presidential Debates has canceled the second debate between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, a source says, a culmination of a furious 48-hour back-and-forth between the commission and both campaigns. That means what would have been the third debate in Nashville on October 22 will likely be the final meeting between the two candidates. (📸: Olivier Douliery/Pool/Getty Images)
