The solo show features over 50 quilt-based works by the artist that seamlessly weave American history into a broader context of global traditions and styles. As we prepare to reopen on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the Bronx Museum continues its commitment to being a community gathering place that is open, inclusive and equitable, where all people feel welcome, valued, and accepted. To prioritize the health and safety of our visitors and staff, admissions will look different. While the Bronx Museum remains free and open to the public, visitors and members must book timed tickets in advance and follow all safety guidelines. The museum will operate at a reduced capacity with limited ticketing and entry every 30 minutes. The museum's new hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM, until further notice. We look forward to safely welcoming our guests back through our doors. This was the final week of the Bronx Museum’s Teen Summer program, a four-week paid intensive which went virtual for this summer. Two cohorts of 12 teens each discussed art, the role of museums in NYC, and their experiences during the coronavirus pandemic, and created artwork in various media for a virtual exhibit now up on our website. Sneak peek of “Sanford Biggers: Codeswitch” coming soon to the Bronx Museum! _____ The exhibition contains over 60 quilt-based works informed by African American history and oral tradition, including the legend that quilts hanging outside houses along the Underground Railroad had codes hidden in their patterns. The codes served as markers for safe houses and to let people escaping slavery know they were on the right path to freedom.
