The best investment I made in my garden, hands down!

This system freed up my time to focus on other things, and at times take a brake from the garden when needed. It’s definitely not a “set it and forget it” solution, but the convenience factor is off the charts and your plants will thank you for the consistent watering schedule.

You should still make a visual inspection when the system runs to determine any obvious leaks/problems from time to time (usually every 2 weeks for me).

Time for some support! 💁🏻♂️
This is my first time growing watermelon, and it was kind of an afterthought. I direct sowed the seeds in a mid-June Hail Mary attempt.
The one in this photo went from the size of a golf ball to the size of a softball in 1 week! In hindsight, a trellis would’ve been ideal but here I am, and the vine decided to trellis itself on my shade cloth.
To prevent the fruit from snapping off prematurely, I made a simple basket/sling from extra shade cloth. Swipe 👉🏼

Follow up to my post from yesterday.
Inchelium Red is a softneck ‘artichoke’ type of garlic, so called because of the overlapping clove configuration (like artichoke leaves).
Due to its large size, I space the cloves a little further apart (6-8”) and plant them a little deeper (4-6”). Sowing too closely together may result in smaller heads.
It stores really well! I’ll be saving these larger heads to sow my next crop in Winter. 🧄

The garlic is done curing, so I’m processing it for storage and use.
If any of the heads are starting to separate, or I see any damage to a clove then I’ll use those earlier than the others.
I tried curing horizontally on racks this year and it took longer than last year, so I’m going back to hanging them inverted (heads up) for future harvests.
Inchelium Red was the MVP once again this year! 100% germination and average head size was around 70g (typical store bought garlic is around 40g). I had half a dozen of them that hit 100g!

I inherited this old cactus recently. As far as I can tell it’s “Euphorbia Caput-Medusae”, or Medusa’s Head cactus which originated in South Africa.
I’m not totally sure, as this cactus is about 40+ years old and little info was available other than it’s approximate age. If anyone knows more, please comment below!
I’m going to break up, and repot this main ball. I also took cuttings which I hope to propagate.

First potatoes of the season! 🥔
I decided to run an experiment this time around. I have multiple pots, and each is a little different.
Most people say mounding up the soil around the plant will increase yield, but I think it’s more to protect the tubers near the surface than anything.
You should be able to achieve the same result using mulch (at least that’s my hypothesis). I’ll provide an update after the next harvest. 👨🏻🌾 Posting times

Potting up!
This cactus was overdue for a new home. Over time, they will become pot bound just like any other plant.
