BIG teams up with @icon3dtech and @spacexarch, to work with @NASA on beginning research & development of a space-based construction system that could support future exploration of the . has signaled that, through the program, the Moon will be the first off-Earth site for surface exploration. BIG's design for ICON's will be a sustainable , the first human foray into extra-terrestrial construction with robust structures that provide better thermal, radiation, and micrometeorite protection than metal or inflatable habitats can offer. Last week, we unveiled AI CITY—the new hi-tech campus dedicated to 's ambitions in , , networking & big data. Located in , also known as the 'Mountain City' in southwest China, is comprised of Cloud Valley, conceived as two plots that mimic each other's opposites: the Mountain, which forms a striking landmark and shelter to a protected network of courtyards for public functions, and the Valley, which offers the largest publicly accessible green rooftop in for open-air events. La Linea, designed by BIG & @artemide_lighting, is named this year’s lamp winner of Denmark’s , recognizing Danish designers in a competition organized by @bobedredk, @boligmagasinetdk and . The lamp was chosen by a panel of seven judges who appreciated 's sculptural form as both a lamp and . The flexible fluorescent lamp can wind up and down walls inside and outside, withstanding temperature fluctuations of up to 60 degrees. Designed by BIG, @hijjas_architects_and_planners & @rambollgroup, is conceived as an Urban Mosaic of three diverse islands, and a set of guidelines for mixing programs, addressing pedestrian and mobility networks, building and harvesting resources. The three islands bring together mixed-use districts of 15,000 to 18,000 residents across 50 to 500 acres, and a continuous 50 to 100m buffer around each district, establishing habitat connectivity and supporting edge ecologies in reserves, parks, corridors and urban plazas. BIG, @hijjas_architects_and_planners & @rambollgroup are selected as winners of Penang State Government's competition to design a masterplan for South Islands, providing Penangites with approximately 4.6km of public beaches, 600 acres of parks and a 25km waterfront! Our proposal – – supports the vision with a clear focus on livability, on stimulating a socially and economically inclusive development, and on environmental for future generations. BiodiverCity will be a new sustainable, global destination where , ecological and economic growth is secured and where people & nature co-exist in one of the most places on the planet at the southern shore of Penang Island. BIG & @ vestre_furniture unveil The Plus as ’s new sustainable furniture factory tucked in the heart of the Norwegian forest. Envisioned as a village for a community dedicated to the cleanest, carbon neutral fabrication of urban & social furniture, The Plus aims to be a global destination for and high-efficiency production. Our action in architecture extends beyond designing spaces that foster equality and equity–we want to raise our voices and be part of the movement to eradicate injustices. We encourage you, however and wherever possible, to stand united in solidarity.
