My friend Ryan, from www.pausethemoment.com, is in Park City, Utah right now... so today I took him on a 22.5 mile bike ride around the city and showed him some of Park City's most interesting sights. Here I am, standing with my @co_motionbikes Siskiyou touring bicycle on the gold medal podium from the 2002 winter Olympics.

One of the most common questions I get asked is, "How do you lock up and protect your bicycle/belongings when you want to go inside a store or explore a city on foot?" The answer to that question very much depends on the situation and where I am in the world.... but in this old photo from my 2012 bike tour across Europe, you can see that I have locked my bicycle frame and rear wheel to a tree and removed the front wheel (so no one can steal it) and placed that front wheel inside my tent (along with all my other posessions). I was staying in a crowded city campground in Utrecht, Netherlands... and while I almost NEVER go through the trouble of removing my front wheel like I did here, securing my bicycle/campsite this way freed me up to spend an entire day just walking around the city. My friends Katie and Myles are in Park City, Utah right now... visiting from Southern California. This morning I woke up early to take them on a 15+ mile bike ride around my beautiful town. Such great people!!! Wish they were staying here longer.

Made a spontaneous trip to Dinosaur National Monument with my friends Madison, Karen and Andrew. We saw ancient petroglyphs, swam in the river, sang campfire songs, searched for shooting stars and saw hundreds of dinosaur fossils. 🐊

You can do a lot in just 24 hours. For the last several weeks I have been conducting short 24-hour trips with my friends here in the US state of Utah. It's so nice to get out in nature, have a mini adventure and then be back in the comfort of your own home one day later.

This past weekend I went bikepacking in the mountains of Utah with my friends Praveen, Bryan and Jim. 4,000+ feet of climbing on the first day, camped at the top of a mountain, made a campfire, then biked back down the mountain the next morning on a fun single-track trail. Incredible views around every bend! Amazing what kind of adventures you can have in just a short amount of time!

This weekend I traveled to the mountains of central Idaho for a 4-day backpacking adventure with my friends Madison and Matt. We camped in the snow... at the base of a mountain... on the edge of a lake... and next to a raging river. We played card games in our tents at night, cooked food around a campfire, laughed so hard our faces hurt, and even had a bobcat (or at least, I think it was a bobcat) rip a hole in the side of my tent during the middle of the night. It was an epic mini-adventure... and a super fun way to celebrate Madison's birthday!
